BASF Kids' Lab helps children in the Philippines learn how to be "Clever Foodies

Image
My Nathan and I went to The Mind Museum in Taguig City, Philippines last October 21, 2018 for the interactive science education program inside the BASF Kids'Lab. The kids learned about chemistry and nutrition through safe, hands-on experiments. My son together with my friend's kids, elementary school children from public schools in Taguig, as well as from Gawad Kalinga communities were guided by their assigned mentors as they explore and analyze the Vitamin C content and other substances contained in fruit and vegetables, and understand the benefits of eating a colorful range of vegetables and fruit. "Through BASF Kids'Lab, we provide kids from a variety of backgrounds with the opportunity to experience chemistry through hands-on experiments. This year, to celebrate the United Nations' World Food Day on October 16, we are introducing a new series of experiments: the Çlever Foodies'program. This program helps boost children's dietary awaren...

Taking the First Step to STEM

Image
The moment our child is born, we parents are already thinking of good education. When the time comes that our child is ready for school, we want the best education. Being a parent, I am aware that it is not that easy to find the right school – it takes time, effort and research. Aside from school, we also want to go extra mile of giving them more learning aside from what they study. Back in 2009, a parent named Dori Roberts had a hard time finding an educational program to get her six- and eight-year-old started on engineering. The Virginian mother was also an educator specializing in math and science, and she quickly realized that there is a need for a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) program that is geared towards young children. Where most parents would have just given up and enrolled their children in regular schools, Robert saw opportunity. With her extensive background in STEM and a passion for teaching, she started Engineering for Kids (EF...

Image
I am a mom of five and all I want is the best for my children. I am not wealthy and what I can give to my kids is good education. It is the only legacy that I know will benefit them.  Luckily, I was able to attend the sixth annual Philippine Homeschool Conference Expo (PHC) held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier in Taguig City. This year's theme is "From Roots to Wings" to cultivate the firm foundation that hey have with parents by continuing to provide them with knowledge ad virtues that would help them ascend together. The Homeschooling Association of the Philippine Islands (HAPI) gathered some of the country's experts like Bo Sanchez, Eric Mendoza, Joy Mendoza and Senator Kiko Pangilinan. They shared their understanding about the meaning of homeschooling and its importance. This gave me more knowledge since I am new to this.  Eric Nicdao, District Manager of Philam Life, explained that while there are distinct advantages to homeschooli...
