Novuhair Supports Alopecia Areata Awareness in Celebrating Inner Strength

Manila, Philippines - September is marked as the month of commemorating Alopecia Areata awareness all over the world. Alopecia Areata is a condition when hair loss develop when hair folicles are attacked mistakenly by our immune system that may result to a partial or total loss of hair on the hair or other parts of the body where hair grows. It can happen to women and men of any age, but is common to people younger than 20.

Abby Asistio, singer & song writer has been diagnosed with alopecia areata when she was only 4 years old. It was an extensive turning point in her life when she decided to come out to the public with her condition. Abby, together with Alopecia Philippines, the group she created,  will lead this year's celebration in the country. She's been supporting the cause of empowering citizens with this condition.



Abby decided to start an online campaign on 2012 in time with Alopecia Awareness Month. She invited family and friends to pose with the double "A"(inverted "V") sign with the use of their fingers on Instagram. Abby was overwhelmed with the successful result, that thousands of photos were contributed from netizens. 

This developed a way to Alopecia Philippines and their aim to:
  • correct common misconceptions about alopecia
  • provide encouragement to people afflicted with it
  • create an online support community for them
The group started out as a group of ten, and now with 300 solid members. Even their Facebook page - Alopecia Areata Awareness, draws followers worldwide. Men and women, kids and teens, from different walks of life started sharing their stories and struggles living with alopecia  because they were inspired by Abby's courage.
