Swimming is one of the popular sports around the world, especially in the Philippines. It has been a part of our lives during summer that we make plans ahead. Team building is now trending in our country and most outings has a swimming activity. This happens not only during summer, but anytime of the year. Filipinos love swimming!
The question is, do you know how to swim? Do you know the importance of learning how to swim?
You can even save a life if you know how to swim.
Let me give you a brief background of the Bert Lozada Swim School and the people behind its success.
60 years of teaching expertise
For the late Remberto “Bert” C. Lozada, swimming is not just a leisure sport but also a means of preserving one’s life. It encourages self-confidence, reliability, independence and judgment. More importantly, there is an increasing need for all young people to cope with the environment of water in order to at least be able to save their own lives. This is the philosophy that keeps BLSS at the top of the industry since 1956. From a single swim lesson provider, BLSS is now the largest and best managed swim school in country today.
from the individual to the community
Today, Bert Lozada’s legacy is extended and carried further not just to individuals but now to different communities and municipalities, through the help of his family and establishment of the Bert Lozada Swimming School (BLSS). BLSS currently runs learn to swim programs, competitive programs as well as comprehensive programs for the PE department of different Educational Institutions.
BLSS fundamentals of swimming
BLSS is the only swimming institution that provides personalized and group teaching instruction to infants, children and adults through the Bert Lozada Swim System. The BLSS teaches water safety and survival techniques as well as helps conquer one’s hydrophobia. Under the Bert Lozada Swim System, every student surely acquires the basic skills in survival swimming. At BLSS, everyone can swim.
training & coaching
While teaching the fundamentals of swimming, BLSS is constantly on the look out for talented students who can be trained to be future swimming champions of their school, club, city, region and even the country. BLSS’s expertise in training and coaching have also contributed to the swimming industry thru the discovery of swimming champions in both local and international competitions—BLSS produced 6 Olympians Eric Buhain, Jenny Guerrero, Lisa Danila, Raphael Chua, Ryan Arabejo and Ryan Papa and veteran internationalists’ Lambert Guiriba, Enchong Dee and Erin Castrillo, to name a few.

When I was in grade school, we had a field trip in Laguna, & swimming is part of our last itinerary. I pretended that I know how to swim, because I didn't want to be out of place since I was just a new student. I know it's not a good idea pretending, but I learned how to swim on my own, the "superman style"only.
My dream didn't stop there! My mom asked a friend's son, from the Philippine team, to teach me the right way of swimming. It was a fun summer for me! I learned how to swim, met new friends & build my confidence.
Now that summer is here, it my privilege to join parents & our children for a swimming lesson with the Lozada team!
I will make sure that all my 5 children will learn how to swim!
I will make sure that all my 5 children will learn how to swim!
With summer fast approaching, parents and their kids are busy planning for summer activities. Beating the heat always involves a trip to the beach or a resort pool, both requiring swimming skills to maximize the fun safely!
Bert Lozada Swim School (BLSS), the country’s largest swim institution, announced the programs and schedules for their 2016 courses that provide personalized and group teaching instruction to infants, children and adults through the Bert Lozada Swim System.
The BLSS teaches water safety and survival techniques as well as helps conquer one’s hydrophobia. Under the Bert Lozada Swim System, every student surely acquires the basic skills in survival swimming. At BLSS, everyone can swim.
BLSS Chief Operating Officer Angelo Lozada shared, “2016 is our 60th year and we are excited to welcome both old and new students into the Bert Lozada Swim System this summer in over 60 of our venues nationwide!”
BLSS has a pool of competent staff composed of educators and coaches, some of who are members of the World Swimming Coaches Association (WSCA) and certified by the Australian Council for the Teaching of Water-safety and Swimming (AUSTSWIM).
As part of the company’s commitment to provide high quality instruction to its students, the company continuously updates its technical expertise through the staff’s participation in seminars both here and abroad such as those conducted by the United States Swim School Association (USSSA) and World Aquatic Babies and Children Association (WABC) to which BLSS is a member. Other seminars participated in were held at various swimming centers such as the Crystal Palace Sports Center in the United Kingdom, the prestigious Leipzig Sports University in Germany, and the World Swimming Clinic in Florida, USA conducted by the American Swimming Coaches Association. BLSS is also affiliated with the World Aquatic Baby Congress (WABC) and the Australian Coaches and Swim Teachers Association (ACSTA).
“We have continuously evolved our training expertise in recognition of the numerous developments and learnings, both in technology and psychology,” Lozada shared. “Our founder, Bert Lozada, started this institution with a vision of a „drown-free Philippines‟ and we share that vision with him.”
The BLSS also conducts its own research and development on the current trends in the field of swimming. Thus, it has developed its very own swimming equipment scientifically engineered for use in the various stages of its swimming programs.

Pepper Angeles-Lozada is married to Coach Angelo Lozada, mother to 3 energetic boys, a homeschool mom and a licensed Zumba fitness instructor.
She has always been fond of swimming since she was 2 years old. In college, she joined the St. Scholastica’s swimming team and eventually became the Team Captain. While in college, she found herself drawn to another water sport, Springboard & Platform diving during the
1991 South East Asian Games. Initially, it was just a hobby sport until the National coach encouraged her to try out for the national team…and landed a spot in the team. However, it was a short-lived sports career.
Teaching infant & toddler swimming was like second nature to Pepper, backed up with hands-on trainings under The Aquatic Achievers Swim School and certification from AUSTSwim she had in Queensland, Australia. She aimed to be good at what she does by always keeping herself up to date with the latest techniques on teaching infant & toddler swimming by attending conferences hosted by the U.S. Swim School Association.
In Bert Lozada Swim School, she holds a significant role by improving the school’s infant & toddler swim program, My Baby & Me. She also handles the training of teachers for the said program.
