Join Us Conquer the 4th at the Citi Vertical Run 2019 with Kerry Sports Manila




Honestly, this is the first time I've heard about vertical run and I'm grateful that I was there during the launch of Citi Vertical Run 2019 at Kerry Sports Manila, last August 22. Not only did I discover the upcoming run, I'm lucky to have tried it myself!

Conquer the 4th at the Citi Vertical Run 2019 with Kerry Sports Manila is happening on September 22 at Shangri-La the Fort, Manila, one of the tallest buildings in the metro fairing at 229.3 meters.

The Citi Vertical Run 2019 with Kerry Sports Manila is organized by Shangri-La at the Fort and has been given the "Qualified Race (QR)" title by the International Skyrunning Federation, the world governing body for skyscraper racing.


I was so curious with the vertical run that I was so excited to join the media trial, which is 22 floors. I'm sharing a short video of our experience for you to see what it's like. Although I walked most of the time since it's my first time, it was still a big success for me. So now that I know the intensity of climbing 22 floors, I'll be ready!

Tips for first time runners:
  • Eat good food and no diet a week before and after the race. If you're restricted to a diet regimen, better take that diet off. 
  • Take complex carbohydrates a week prior to the race.
  • Prepare your body fr the race.
  • Good hydration a week prior to the race. Electrolyte rich drink to be taken prior and during the race.
  • Proper stretching before and after the race.
  • It is highly recommended not to take any pain reliever after the race to allow the muscles to hypertrophy. 
Categories:
Fun Climb (Php 1,200)

  • For beginners or non-runners who wish to try the Vertical Run.
  • Only up to 20 floors that's great for those with minimal experience or children as young as 10 years old.

Horizon Challenge (Php 1,200)

  • For casual runners, it's a fun challenge by running up to 37 floors.
  • Minimum age requirement is 12 years old.
Full Challenge (PHP 1,500)

  • Runners will race up to 59 floors, conquering 1,353 steps at 250 meters.
  • The minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
Team Challenge (Php 6,000)

  • Achieve a new level of #fitnessgoals with friends or officemates with the team.
  • a team of four will run together the 59 floors.
  • Their official record will be based on the third runner that crosses the finish line.
Andrico Mahilum, the current record holder for the male Filipino runner with a clocking of 7:57 minutes last year, shared that in order for the first timers to the conquer the Vertical Run, all it takes is a proper preparation, mindset, and focus.

Me and my friend Ron Ryan Buguis had a chance to have a group picture with Michael Montes, Director of Recreation and Kerry Sports; Filipino record holder Andrico Mahilum; and basketball player Bobby Ray Parks Jr. at the top of Shangri-la the Fort during the media trial on August 22.

There are two ways to register for the Citi Vertical Run 2019 with Kerry Sports Manila: Go to www.manilaverticalrun.com/register and fill in the online registration form or register over the counter with cash at Kerry Sports Manila at Shangri-La Manila at the Fort, Manila. Deadline of registration is until September 8, 10 p.m.
