Picturing Marawi featured in SM Supermalls
When I hear the word Marawi, it is saddening thinking of the tragic story of how our brothers and sisters' lives were affected and destroyed. Here I am, revisiting the tragic backstory of the Maranaos at SM Megamall, Picturing Marawi Photo Exhibit showing heart-breaking photos of the Marawi siege aftermath immortalized by former journalist Mylah Reyes Roque that will be also be featured in select SM malls from June 5 to August 31.
Picturing Marawi unfolds the outcome of human conflict through images of buildings, homes and mosquues that are deserted by the war but nevertheless speak of the community that used to make it alive. These are stories of a siege fought in close quarters.
"The exhibit memorializes the tragedy in Marawi with the aim to engage mallgoers and help them have a greater understanding of the conflict," said Jonjon San Joaquin, SM Supermalls senior vice president for marketing.
Schedule of Exhibit in SM malls:
- Megamall - June 3 to June 11
- Southmall - June 24 to June 29
- Sucat - July 22 to July 28
- Rosario - August 5 to August 11

The Marawi siege is an armed conflict that took place in Marawi, lanao del Sur ー a city filled with pulsating energy that was silenced by war. The battle started on the 23rd of May 2017 and lasted for five months ー leaving the city in ruins and ending the lives of many Filipinos.
